Blue Lines Gradient Thingy
Oct 29th 2008
Okay, so this guy gXpratama gets on my nerves long enough, asking me to release the tutorial to make the “thing” you see on the post image. Yeah, eat this, gXpratama! Hehe ![]()
Okay, no offense there. Anyway, this tutorial is very simple, it just needs 3 steps to achieve the final result you see above. Okay, now let’s begin shall we? Let’s assume you have opened an empty document (canvas) in Photoshop, I consider this step 0, it doesn’t count. I prefer 1024×768 pixel size, transparent background. No, you can’t see what’s behind your screen. I use *cough* Adobe Photoshop CS3 *cough*, by the way. I assume the same steps can also be performed on another software, like on GIMP, for example.
Step 1
I also assume you have selected a color as the main gradients, I use the ‘free’ Tango Color Palette, here or here. Set one color as the default foreground color. Next, go to “Filter > Render > Clouds”. Okay.

Step 2
Go to “Filter > Pixelate > Mosaic”, and use the settings as pictured. That’s my settings, anyway, you are free to use whatever you want but I found that 50px works best since most of the time I’ll downsize the canvas anyway.

Step 3
Go to “Filter > Blur > Motion Blur”, and again, use the settings as pictured. You may tweak the values later on. VoilĂ !

Next thing to do would be to apply this thingy in your projects. Use your imagination, and may the Force guide you. One more, it’ll be easier for you if you make a custom actions with the above steps. Therefore, you can make one thingy rapidly with less clicks.
